Book Review: Our Love Story by Rohit Sharma

Our Love Story is an interesting book about the impact one person can have on your life, and how being willing to step outside your shell can actually result in wonderful things.

Aditya Bakshi is son of a millionaire, handsome, happy-go-lucky guy living on the edge. Veronica, a beautiful but insecure young woman and a struggling model, decides to stop her misery by killing herself. And they meet, Aditya and Veronica. Veronica is reluctant at first since she hides a tortured past. And as it turns out, Veronica is not the only one with a tortured past, Aditya is also hiding a painful secret. As their relationship progresses through many obstacles, both feel that they can’t be together.

What starts out as a coming of age story quickly turns into part mystery part piecing-it-together puzzle of sorts. This plot and character driven story takes readers through love, heartbreak, hope, friendship, tears and smiles. It had emotions all over the pages–from tremendous frustration to pure elation.

What’s most appealing with Our Love Story is its cast of dynamically real, well-drawn characters from unique backgrounds, each with their individual quirk and spunk that author Rohit Sharma successfully developed layer by layer. It seems, after you closed the book, as if you already know everything there is about them. There are no cardboard cut-out characters here.

Our Love Story is a book that you read and never forget. It’s a book, in my opinion, that makes you think in a different way; comical and heartbreakingly sad at once while seamlessly dealing with some of the big questions youth of today sometimes face. Beyond the romance drama, it is an inspiring work about life and death, about how someone’s life touches us and changes the way we see things, about overcoming suffering and loss, about the strong bond of friendship, and the choices we must inevitably make. It is about discovering who we are and who we can become as we walk upon this labyrinth we call life and ultimately, why our last words may or may not define who we are as persons.
