The level of scientific development achieved by humans reaches pandemic proportions as a destructive virus sweeps the Earth and threatens the very existence of the human race. In this novel, CBI officer Jake Stevens undertakes an investigation that quickly leads him to the discovery of the medical world’s most dangerous secret.
The events of the story take place during the pandemic, when people all over the world were still suffering from the catastrophic consequences of the SARS-CoV-2 virus. One day, Mr. Kato Forsido, Director General of the World Health Organization, gets a frightening code in his mailbox. He sends CBI officer Jake Stevens on a covert mission to China, where he deciphers the code to uncover a trail of evidence that brings him to the Wuhan Museum. Here, he meets the intelligent museum docent, Juan Liu. Together, they carry out a theft of a mysterious museum item, which sets them on a risky adventure to find an antidote for the virus. This journey puts them in jeopardy on several occasions.
In a battle for survival, they must navigate the dreary, damp market to the heavily monitored BSL-4 facility in Wuhan. Along the way, they must dodge a deadly wildlife trafficking network as well as a brutal Chinese police force. Eventually, they confront one another with a devastating truth regarding the evolutionary history of humanity.
The novel Chimaera is a thriller that will keep you on the edge of your seat with its suspense and intrigue. The author, Navin Reuben Dawson, did an excellent job of incorporating difficult topics like medical science and biological research into the mystery-thriller genres. The writing is lucid and easy to understand, and all the information is presented in comprehensible language. The story got off to a strong start and managed to keep up its level of suspense and excitement right up to the very end.
Conspiracy theories, biological weapons, and viruses of mass devastation are just a few of the many subjects explored in this story. This is a plot-driven story, and the author had the flawless abilities to interconnect multiple stories with a fast-paced and intelligent narration, leading to the most shocking twist that anybody wouldn’t see coming. The story also had the perfect power to make the reader feel as if they were part of the story themselves. Multiple plot lines seemingly converge at a perfect pace, and the pockets of intellectual research never seem to interfere with the fast-paced plot.
Chimaera is written with such vividness and allure by Navin Reuben Dawson that it is impossible to put down once you start reading. You are immediately immersed in a complex narrative that takes unexpected twists and turns, and the storyline that keeps you guessing until the very end. He drops a few hints here and there, but they are difficult to spot until you go back and read everything carefully. As a result, it leaves us wondering what, if anything, will be done to address a genuine danger to civilization as we know it. A thrilling and gripping page turner, Chimaera is full of action and mounting tension that keeps you reading until you reach the very last page of the book.
