Book Review: Cometh The Hour
Starting with a literal bang, this action packed thriller Cometh The Hour begins with the reading of Major Fisher’s suicide note. Giles goes after the woman he loves and plots a escape plan that makes Mission Impossible seem like child’s play. However, Giles bad luck with women didn’t end with Lady Virginia.
Of course, she isn’t just a distant memory—a putrid memory from Gile’s tasteless days. No. Virginia is facing bankruptcy once again and is sent down a downwards spiral until she meets Cyrus T Grant. Planning to get a ring on her finger once more, and not even willing to give up when she finds out Cyrus has his heart set on another, she forces Cyrus to pay her a monumental sum every month for the next few years, but her mischief will come back and bite her in the back—and hard, too.
“When a woman shows some leadership, she’s immediately branded as bossy, but when a man does exactly the same thing, he’s described as decisive, and a born leader.”
Sebastian has been cursed with the luck of his Uncle Giles, and falls for Priya—a magnificent lady with a passion for ballet. However, her parents have already selected her future husband, and won’t meet him until the day of their wedding. Sebastian too embarks on a rescue mission to free the woman he loves—but will he be as lucky as Giles?
Cometh The Hour is a textbook Archer novel, with unexpected twist bombarding us when we least expect them and leaving us winded and panting for air in a span of 5 minutes, making us perspire far more than the average marathon runner! The dictionary definition of bittersweet—yet managing to make us chuckle when we really should be wallowing in sorrow.
“Dead men’s words are so much more powerful than those of the living”
Any review cannot fully justify Jeffrey Archer’s writing ability. He spins the story so well, you don’t know where it might land on the meter of your heart. He adds mystery and suspense into the story and same is done so smoothly that the reader has to read and read, but never gets enough.
I loved that finally there was a mention of Deakins, and at what a wonderful point! He was a remarkable character and just vanished after the first book. The only thing which I felt was a bit off was Priya’s character in the story. She just comes and goes. There is no significance of her in Seb’s life. It is like even if I skip that part of the story, nothing much would change.
Can’t wait to discover the adventures of the Cliftons in the final book!
